Weeki Wachee Springs and River
Weeki Wachee Springs is a Florida State Park operated by a contracted private company.  It is located in the town of Weeki Wachee, FL.  The park features a very large spring basin with caverns and caves.  Sadly, there is no swimming or diving in the spring.  Instead there is a mermaid show viewed through an underwater theatre.  The park has a large swimming area with crystal clear water and 4 spring-fed water slides (no chlorine).  Since the state bought the park admission is very low and fills up typically before it opens.  Arrive 1 hour before opening during the week and 2 hours before on weekends.

The Weeki Wachee River is a hidden gem to kayak or canoe.  You can rent a canoe/kayak/paddleboard from the park (arrive early) and paddle downstream to a pick up point for a ride back in a van.  You can also rent from a few places at the boat ramp (the kayak shack) downstream and paddle upstream.  There are several places to jump off a tree or rope swing along the river.  You will likely see manatees, dolphins, deer, turkeys, etc.  The water gets clearer as you paddle upstream.  A full day can be spent on the river or at the main park.
