At first glance, Royal Springs looks more like a sinkhole. The upper layer of water is very silty and there is no boil. It has a large basin w/ average depths of 15 feet. Once you get past the top layer of silt there is good visibility to enjoy the sights of fish and old cypress trees. There is a very large cavern entrance at about 10 feet that extends to deeper depths. The remnants of an old concrete dock that was washed away due to flooding still remains.
Directions:
From Branford, take US 129 north to Obrien, left on S-349 for about 11 miles. Turn left at very small sign onto a dirt road.
Follow it to the spring.
